A section of the Auburn-Pownal Road will be closed for construction beginning September 10 for approximately 2-3 weeks to replace two failing culverts, according to Durham Road Commissioner Calvin Beaumier.
The Town received two separate grants totaling $190,000 from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection to complete the work. No local matching funds will be required for the project.
The culverts, which are designed with an open bottom to allow for unobstructed fish passage, have been ordered and are expected to be completed by the manufacturer on September 10 and construction will begin.
The site of construction is located between the large power transmission lines and the Maine Forest Yurts on the Auburn-Pownal Road. There will be a traffic control plan in place, as well as a detour route to be announced soon.
